Survivorship
Support That Lasts Beyond
Treatment
Finishing active treatment is a major milestone—but your care doesn’t end there. At Central Valley Breast Care, we’re committed to your long-term health and healing through our dedicated Survivorship Program.
Whether it’s managing side effects, monitoring for recurrence, or supporting healthy lifestyle choices, we’re here to walk with you in this next chapter.
What happens at a survivorship visit?
Your survivorship provider will:
Review your cancer treatment history and wellness plan
Perform a clinical breast exam and order imaging as needed
Screen for signs of recurrence or new cancers
Identify and manage long-term or late effects of treatment
Offer guidance on healthy lifestyle habits
Refer you to support services and specialists if needed
These visits are designed to give you peace of mind, provide expert follow-up care, and answer any questions you may have as you navigate life beyond treatment.
Monitoring Your Health:
Surveillance & Follow-Up
Each patient receives a personalized surveillance plan, taking into account your unique history, diagnosis, and treatment path. This may include:
Physical exams
Mammograms, ultrasounds, or MRIs
Lab tests or specialty imaging
Screening for new primary cancers
Recovery Support & Physical Therapy
Healing doesn’t end in the operating room.
Our recovery support includes —
-
To help track and prevent issues like lymphedema.
-
Including range-of-motion exercises, scar tissue care, and support for conditions like “cording.”
-
A noninvasive way to detect early signs of lymphedema, allowing for proactive treatment.
-
Provided by specialized physical therapists to help reduce swelling and improve mobility and comfort.
Early Lymphedema Detection with SOZO® Technology
We’re proud to be the only provider within 85+ miles offering SOZO bioimpedance spectroscopy—a non-invasive, cutting-edge tool for early detection of lymphedema.
The SOZO device looks like a scale but includes hand and foot sensors. It measures your L-Dex score, which helps identify subtle fluid changes—often before symptoms appear—so we can intervene early and prevent complications.
This level of technology is typically found only at university-level cancer centers.
By offering it here at CVBC, we ensure our patients receive world-class care close to home.

Healthy Living After Breast Cancer
Research shows that healthy lifestyle choices can improve quality of life—and may reduce the risk of recurrence for some. We’ll help you take small, sustainable steps toward wellness in areas like:
-
Gradual return to activity, with a goal of 150 minutes of moderate activity per week
-
Emphasis on a well-balanced whole food diet with limited alcohol and processed foods
-
Recommendations based on medical need, with careful monitoring to avoid interference with treatment.
Managing Long-Term Effects
We monitor and support you through the potential physical and emotional effects of breast cancer treatment, such as:
-
Some treatments may affect heart function over time. We monitor your cardiovascular health and collaborate with your primary care team or cardiologist when needed.
-
Hormone therapies can lead to symptoms like hot flashes, mood changes, or bone thinning. We help manage these side effects with personalized solutions.
-
Swelling in the arm or chest area can occur after lymph node removal. We provide prevention education, baseline measurements, and access to lymphedema therapy and SOZO testing.
-
Trouble concentrating or memory issues can persist after treatment. We offer strategies and referrals to help improve cognitive function and reduce frustration.
-
Many survivors experience ongoing tiredness that’s different from normal exhaustion. We help you explore contributing factors and create a plan to restore energy over time.
-
Difficulty sleeping is common during and after treatment. We discuss sleep hygiene and offer solutions to improve rest and recovery.
-
Changes in libido, discomfort, or concerns about fertility are valid and common. We offer a safe space to talk about these topics and can refer to specialists for further support.
-
Anxiety, depression, and post-treatment emotional lows are normal responses. We offer mental health referrals and connect you with local support groups and counseling resources.
